What’s still open and what’s not in Tier 3

With Exeter moving into Tier 3 restrictions from New Year's Eve, people in the city will be wanting to know which City Council facilities and services will be closed and which ones will stay open.

From Thursday 31 December:
- The Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery will have to shut to visitors in line with government guidance
- All performances of The Wizard of Oz – this year’s Christmas pantomime at Exeter Corn Exchange – from 31 December onwards will sadly have to be cancelled. Full refunds will automatically be issued. Should you have any questions about this please email box.office@exeter.gov.uk
- Leisure Centres in Exeter will remain open to members only but must be booked in advance online at the specific centre website. Group activities and classes cannot take place.
- Exeter’s free Red Coat Guided Tours will not now run
- Exeter’s Custom House Visitor Centre will also be forced to close
- Skate parks and tennis courts remain open
- All City Council-run car parks remain open (the multi-storey section of Mary Arches Street Car Park remains closed while demand is low but will reopen if required in future)
- Parks and play areas remain open across the city
- As do allotments but with certain restrictions
- Cemeteries remain open
- Exeter’s historic Guildhall, the Underground Passages and Matford Sunday Market and Car Boot Sale remain closed
- Exeter’s Famers Market will continue to operate with the first market after Christmas being held on Thursday 7 January
The City Council is now closed for the Christmas break but does still have a number of staff working over the holiday period to cover urgent matters in key areas of work such as homelessness, emergency housing repairs, refuse collection, cemeteries and burials. Emergency calls can be made at any time including evenings, weekends and the Bank Holidays by calling 01392 277888. Calls should only be for genuine emergencies requiring immediate assistance.
