Wedding fair wows guests in Exeter city centre

Published: 4 March 2022

Wedding Fair Exeter wedding venue, the historic Guildhall

A wedding fair in the heart of Exeter city centre has been declared a success, with more than 150 people attending, the City Council has announced.

The special event was organised by InExeter, with stunning local venues, Exeter’s historic Guildhall and Exeter Castle, hosting and entertaining prospective brides, grooms and other guests.

The free event went so well, organisers are now looking at another event next year.

Those attending were treated to a series of talks, stalls, stands, demonstrations, styling sessions and tasters at Exeter Castle, as well as a special ‘immerse & imagine’ interactive experience at Exeter’s historic Guildhall.

Couples were able to learn how wedding décor can transform a room, see new season bride, groom and guest outfits, hear about local venues, trial hair designs, explore how to surprise their guests and most importantly chat to local businesses with all the experience and guidance to help make their day special.

Inspired by the film series #SomethingSpecial, which follows the journey of Exeter couple Sharifa and Jess as they plan their special day with local businesses, InExeter - the Business Improvement District - organised the event to support local businesses providing specialist services for the wedding trade.

Exeter’s Lord Mayor Cllr Trish Oliver (pictured above) was on hand to welcome guests to the event and held a VIP reception in the Lord Mayor’s Parlour, with local businesses, media outlets, vloggers, bloggers and wedding suppliers among the attendees.

The Parlour was spectacularly lit by Stage Engage who did the lighting for both the Guildhall and Exeter Castle.

Thanks go to all the suppliers, particularly Sharif Tailoring and their models, and Bridal Emporium a local family run business since 1994, who displayed their dresses. The Beltmakers, Loakes Shoemakers, Larsson-Carter Homewares (wedding décor) were all present, as was vocalist Sadie Horler who serenaded the couples and guests through the evening.
