Friends of Exeter Ship Canal are organising a Mass Litter Pick during the festive period.

The aim is for the tow paths and surrounding areas to be litter free for the start of the New Year.

Volunteers are being sought for the clean-up, which takes place on Monday, 30 December, starting outside the Double Locks at 10.30am and finishing at Piazza Terracina at 1pm.

At the end of the morning the collection points for bags of litter and the return of equipment will be outside the Canal Office, next to the Welcome Café.

Washing facilities and toilets will be available at the nearby Exe Water Sports Association.

Volunteers should wear boots or stout shoes and protective or gardening gloves.  High visibility clothing is recommended if people have it. Gloves, high visibility jackets and litter picking equipment will also be available on the day.

Children are welcome at the litter pick provided an adult also attends and takes responsibility for them. Children should come equipped with their own protective gloves as child sizes won’t be provided.

Volunteers can simply turn up on the day - the more the merrier.
