Tackling the Climate Emergency in Exeter with retrofit programme

Work to make Council homes in Exeter more energy efficient to address the climate emergency and fuel poverty is progressing well, the City Council has announced.

The 120 properties off Burnthouse Lane are currently being refurbished and should be completed by the end of August.

A further 100 homes will also be retrofitted by the end of September.

The work is being carried out thanks to a £1.3 million investment from the City Council in addition to a £1.1 million government grant to tackle fuel poverty in the city’s least energy efficient homes.

Cllr Laura Wright, Lead Councillor for Housing Development & Services, said the work would not only make the homes more fuel efficient but would also help the Council’s  housing stock become carbon neutral by 2030.

“The work carried out will make these homes warmer in the winter and deliver considerable savings on heating bills.

“I’m delighted that we’re not only making people’s homes cosier and cheaper to run but also  forging ahead with the real hard work behind the Council’s ambition to be a net Zero city by 2030.” she added.

The retrofit programme sees the whole house refurbished to deliver the very highest energy standards and includes a new heating system, wall and roof insulation, new windows and doors, and photovoltaic roof panels.
