Budding photographers still have time to take part in a photography competition to capture Exeter’s favourite trees. But hurry, entries close on Friday 18 November!

People living in the city are being asked to come up with an image of their favourite tree in Exeter.

The competition is open to amateur photographers and those taking part could a prize for their efforts. So far more than 30 entries have been received.

This is the third year running that the City Council has run the competition, teaming up with Devon Trees Services who are offering up a series of great prizes.

The person who takes the best image will win a Haynes manual for trees and a framed photograph of their picture, with the runner-up receiving a framed photograph of their picture. Once again there is also an under-16 category for budding junior photographers, with the same prizes for the winner and runner-up.

The competition is being organised in the run up to National Tree Week – 27 November to 5 December.

Here are the rules:

  • Pictures must have been taken recently – after 24 October 2022 – and images submitted from last year’s competition will not be allowed.
  • There is a maximum of two entries per person and the deadline for entries is 18 November.
  • The competition is only open to people living in Exeter and they must be amateur photographers. The City Council reserve the right to reproduce any pictures submitted in future publications, online stories or social media posts.
  • Pictures can be with or without people but must include a tree from within Exeter (within Exeter City Council boundary).
  • Pictures can be selfies, arty shots, black and white or colour images. They might be fun shots with children, friends or family in or just a simple shot of your favourite tree. If there are people in the shot, please ensure that they have given their permission to be photographed.
  • Entries must have a name, age of photographer (if under the age of 16) and an accurate location of the tree and the date the picture was taken.
