Role of refuse workers to feature on TV

Published: 28 May 2020

The crucial role that waste and recycling workers play in keeping the nation going during the coronavirus pandemic will be highlighted today on regional television.

BBC Spotlight will be featuring a video diary of Exeter City Council’s refuse and recycling driver Tony Hargreaves, who has been with the authority for over 40 years.

The piece, filmed by Tony and his colleagues over a number of days, is set to be shown on today’s lunchtime and teatime bulletins.

The film will highlight the crucial of the role and how workers in the sector are keeping the country ticking over by collecting household waste. It will also shine light on the importance of recycling during these times and how the crews have been faced with much more waste and recycling because people have been staying home.

Tony and his crew are also seen receiving a number of thank you messages and gifts from kind-hearted people across the city.
