Play the Lottery and help good causes deliver valuable services

A charitable organisation that supports people living with multiple sclerosis and other long-term health conditions has urged more people to play the Exeter Community Lottery and help support the 120-plus good causes that are currently benefitting from ticket sales.
The South West MS Centre, which is based in Clyst Heath, Exeter, said the Community Lottery helped them raise money to deliver valuable services to people in need.
Caroline Aird, CEO of the South West MS Centre, said: “We offer Oxygen Therapy, Neuro physiotherapy and a number of complementary therapies, not only for people with Multiple Sclerosis, but also for those with other neurological and long-term health conditions.
“We provide a welcoming and friendly environment, promoting independence and improving wellbeing and quality of life for our members, their families, and carers.
“We are the only low cost, self-referral service for Oxygen Therapy in Devon. We also support our members to access specialised physiotherapy in a friendly and supportive environment.”
The Centre first signed up for the Lottery in July 2023. “It is a great way to support your chosen cause and be in with a chance of a win yourself!” said Caroline.
When people play the weekly lottery they have a chance to choose which good cause to support. Fifty pence in every pound then goes to that cause, with 10p going towards the Exeter Central Fund. The rest of the money pays for prizes and the administration of the lottery.
Players of the lottery can also choose to nominate the money to a central fund which will support funding to groups throughout the city as part of the grants programme.
So far good causes in Exeter have benefitted from thousands of pounds in funding from ticket sales.
Cllr Matt Vizard, Lead Councillor with responsibility for Communities, said: “When you buy a ticket you’re not only giving yourself a chance of winning prizes, you’re also helping community groups and organisations to thrive in this great city.”
Tickets cost just £1 and players have a one in 50 chance of winning a prize. Draws take place every Saturday with ticket holders in with a chance of scooping the top prize of £25,000.
