Pioneering Exeter Extra Care project is taking shape

This striking image shows the extent of progress on the City Council’s pioneering new extra care facility in Exeter.

St Loyes Extra Care is a 52-bed development off Topsham Road, which is being built to the super energy efficient Passivhaus standard – the first of its kind in the country.

The second floor has now been completed at the building, which features 200mm thick external walls.

The Passivhaus design will create optimal internal conditions; a safe, healthy and comfortable environment, as well as greatly reducing energy bills.

The residential development, which is being constructed by Kier, has incorporated new design thinking that aligns better with the requirements of elderly life, placing strong focus on community and companionship.
