New online bin collection calendars are now available in Exeter and there are important changes to how collections are carried out following bank holidays, the City Council has announced.

Exeter City Council has released the domestic bin collection calendars for March 2023 to March 2024.

Collections will now take place one day late for all Exeter households following a bank holiday Monday.

For more than a decade, the City Council operated a system whereby bin collections due on a bank holiday Monday shifted to the following Saturday, enabling collections due on the other days to remain unchanged.

This was designed to cause minimal disruption across the service as the city’s property numbers grew and residents moved in to large new estates in stages.

The changes follow work with the Devon Authorities Strategic Waste Committee to create a consistency framework for collection services throughout the county. The new system also comes after schedule changes made necessary by the additional bank holidays last year and by the extra bank holiday scheduled for the Coronation in May.

Moving all collections back one day also brings the schedule in line with the Christmas and New Year catch-up period.

From now on, bin collections in Exeter following a bank holiday Monday will be as follows:

Bins due on… will be collected on…
Monday Tuesday
Tuesday  Wednesday
Wednesday Thursday
Thursday  Friday
Friday  Saturday

Bins due for collection on Good Friday (7 April) will be collected on Saturday (8 April). Collections following Easter Monday (10 April) will then take place one day late throughout the week as per the routine above and return to normal from Monday 17 April.
