With the General Election fast approaching, people have less than a week left to ensure they are on the electoral register, if they want to vote.
The deadline for registering is 11.59pm on Tuesday 18 June and it’s simple to do – just visit the GOVUK website www.gov.uk/register-to-vote to register.
The General Election itself is now just three weeks away, with polling stations in Exeter opening up from 7am to 10pm on the day, Thursday 4 July.
However, for those who chose to vote by post, the deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June. To apply for a postal vote, also visit the www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote
On the day of the election, everyone voting at a polling station will need to ensure they show photo ID.
There are a number of accepted forms of ID that can be shown at the polling station. This includes:
- Passport
- Driving Licence
- Blue Badge (with a photo)
- Older Person’s Bus Pass funded by the UK Government
Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.
For a full list of accepted ID, along with more information about the requirement and details of how to apply for the free ID, go to exeter.gov.uk/voterid
