Major street party in Exeter to mark 75th anniversary of VE Day

Published: 7 November 2019

In light of the latest Government advice, the VE Day Celebrations have been cancelled.

Exeter will mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a big street party for residents and visitors in the city centre next summer.

The City Council and its key partners in Exeter are coming together to organise a major celebration on Friday, 8 May, 2020.

Celebrations will take place across the city centre, including Princesshay, Bedford Square, High Street and Cathedral Green.

There will be a Military & Community Village on Cathedral Green, featuring a day of family fun and live music from The Liberty Sisters and Steve Knightley.

Cllr Rachel Sutton, Lead Councillor for Climate & Culture, said: “The 75th anniversary of VE Day is a perfect opportunity for a big street party in the city centre and I am delighted that Exeter will mark the day in style.

“It will be chance for communities to come together, to celebrate and have some fun, but also to reflect on the importance and significance of this day, when war finally ended and people were once again able to look forward to a brighter future.”
