Lord Mayor thanks NHS, key workers and volunteers

The Lord Mayor of Exeter has thanked all those who have helped and support people through the coronavirus crisis.

In a video message recorded to mark national birthday celebrations for the NHS, Cllr Peter Holland said: “I would like to place on record my deep and sincere appreciation to all of our support services, who have and continue to work tirelessly to keep us well and safe from harm.

“They really are doing a remarkable job, Time and again they have worked through exceptional circumstances and I am incredibly proud to say that when we needed them the most they were there for us, serving with compassion and professionalism.”

The Lord Mayor added: “I have never been more grateful to see and hear the efforts of key workers and volunteers in our city and across the country including our NHS, schools, emergency services, public transport workers, armed forces and supermarket staff to name but a few. I would personally like to thank each and every one of them.

“We will get through this together and ultimately build stronger and more resilient communities here in Exeter. “

On Sunday 5 July to mark the birthday of the NHS people are being encouraged to join together to say thank you to everyone who is helping us through these difficult times, from carers and helpers, to friends and family, by taking part in a clap at 5pm.

In the run up to the celebrations, Exeter’s historic Guildhall will be lit up blue to celebrate the NHS from 3-5 July. A light will also be left on in the window to remember those who lost their lives during the coronavirus pandemic.

Colouring cards have also been produced for people to download and encourage children to take part.
