Lord Mayor reopens McDonald's Marsh Barton, Exeter Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Trish Oliver, reopens the Marsh Barton restaurant

A charity backed by Exeter’s Lord Mayor is set to benefit from the generosity of a fast-food restaurant.

Inclusive Exeter is to receive £2,000 from local McDonald’s franchisee, David Shawyer.

David agreed to give the Lord Mayor’s charity £1 for every customer transaction at the reopening of his McDonald’s restaurant in Marsh Barton on Thursday 3 February.

The restaurant has reopened after a major refurbishment and Lord Mayor Cllr Trish Oliver was on hand to cut the ribbon and welcome new customers to the new-look restaurant.

There were 1,525 transactions on the day but David kindly rounded the donation up to £2,000.

The money will go to the Lord Mayor’s official charity, Inclusive Exeter. The charity works with grassroots groups, to run a range of projects for the benefit of the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in the surrounding area.

Cllr Oliver said: “It was a delight to meet someone who runs his business well and gives to those in need with such alacrity. Thanks so much David!”
