Exeter’s Lord Mayor and Leader of the City Council will have a virtual presence in City’s St James Park  ground on Monday as they cheer on the Grecians to a potential Play-off Final at Wembley Stadium.

Cllr Peter Holland and Cllr Phil Bialyk are backing Exeter City Football Club’s Grecian in the Ground initiative and will be at St James Park on Monday night for the League Two Play-off semi-final, second leg match against Colchester Utd…as lifesize cut-outs.

The initiative allows fans to pay for a life-size recyclable polypropylene cut-out of themselves in the Stagecoach Adam Stansfield Stand for the big game and any subsequent matches played behind closed doors.

Exeter finished 5th in the curtailed League Two season and travel to Colchester on Thursday for the first of two games, with the second leg at St James Park on Monday night. Both games are being played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The overall winner will go through to a Play-off final at Wembley later in the month, with the prize of a place in Division One.

Lord Mayor Cllr Peter Holland said he wished the Club well in their quest for promotion and would be following the commentary on the radio on Thursday night.

“Having been unsuccessful in previous play off finals in 2017 & 2018 I look forward to The Grecians returning to St.James Park with a clean sheet and 'hat full of goals' to play the second leg on Monday.

“With home advantage I remain optimistic that Exeter City will be playing in the final at Wembley one week later. Come on you Grecians--put in a fantastic performance and make everyone proud!”

City Council Leader Phil Bialyk, said “This is a fantastic initiative – getting the fans behind the team for what promises to be a massive game at St James and supporting the club through these difficult times. I’m happy to be playing my part and can’t wait to see myself in the ground on Monday night as a cut-out!”
