Key food hygiene courses available for food handlers
Published: 4 April 2024
Food handlers in Exeter are being offered competitively priced food hygiene courses, both online and face-to-face.
The courses are being run by the City Council’s Environmental Health Officers and are accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health.
It is a legal requirement that food handlers are supervised and instructed and/or appropriately trained. These qualifications are an ideal way of helping people comply with this requirement.
The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering takes place at the Matford Centre in Marsh Barton and costs £60. Dates for 2024 are 1 May, 10 July, 18 September and 27 November.
The topics covered for the Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene course include:
- Basic bacteriology
- Food poisoning
- Personal hygiene
- Food contamination
- Food storage and temperature control
- Pest control
- Design of premises and equipment
- Cleaning
- Law and management
The Course ends with a short multiple-choice test where candidates will need to achieve 20 correct answers from the 30 questions to obtain the Royal Society for Public Health’s Level 2 Award in Food Safety and Hygiene.
For anyone who prefers to learn at their own pace, the Council also provides e-learning Level 2 (£20 per person) and, for managers and supervisors, Level 3 (£125 per person) food safety courses.
