Hotels in Exeter more likely to bounce back quicker according to report

Published: 10 July 2020

Hotels in Exeter should bounce back quicker than most places in the UK, a new report has revealed.

Exeter is ranked the third most likely city to recover quickly from the effects of COVID-19 on the industry, according to the Colliers UK Hotel Recovery Index.

Plymouth comes top of the Index and the Isle of Wight second.

According to the Index, Exeter is in third place due to its large domestic travel base, as well as its pull as a popular leisure destination within the UK.

The Index says: “Exeter attracts a significant amount of tourism through its historical sites such as Exeter Cathedral, Royal Albert Memorial Museum and the Exeter Quay.

“Furthermore, Exeter has a favourable hotel market structure, with a high percentage of both budget and branded hotels; two factors which will contribute to a quicker recovery timeline.”

This index does not measure how strong a market is, but how quickly that market will bounce back to the levels it achieved in 2019.
