How Alex was helped from homelessness How Alex was helped from homelessness

To mark Homeless Awareness Week 2024 the Council is highlighting the range of support services for anyone homeless or facing homelessness in Exeter.

Throughout the week a wide variety of content has been produced to help those who may be in housing need.

The personal experiences of some of those who have experienced life on the streets in Exeter will also be shared throughout the week.

In the video below Alex shares his story of life on the streets in Exeter and how he was helped to secure accommodation.

Alex recently slept rough in a shop doorway in South Street and shares his experiences of the support he received, from the Council and support agencies.

He also highlights how the kindness of strangers helped him through difficult times.

Anyone can find themselves homeless at any time with a change in their circumstances like redundancy or relationship breakdown.

A dedicated team of officers at the Council work tirelessly, together with other agencies and the community and voluntary sector, to address the problem in Exeter.

Anyone who is homeless or in danger of becoming homeless should contact the Council. More information about Homeless Awareness Week and accessing support services is available on the Council’s website: exeter.gov.uk/homelessawareness/
