Guildhall turns blue to mark 73 years of NHS Exeter’s historic Guildhall

Exeter’s historic Guildhall will be lit up blue tomorrow (Saturday 3 July) to mark 73 years of the NHS.

The NHS celebrates its 73rd Birthday on Monday and a weekend of events have been organised across the country to mark the occasion.

The Guildhall will be turned blue on Saturday, along with dozens of landmark buildings across the country, to mark the milestone and to remember those who have died as a result of the Covid pandemic.

On Saturday the NHS will hold a special memorial service in the Blossom Memorial Garden in East London to remember NHS colleagues who have sadly died during the pandemic.

On Sunday, the Together coalition will lead a national day of thanks and recognition to celebrate the incredible work of NHS staff, key workers and others in the communities who have helped during a challenging year.

People are being encouraged to join May Parsons, the nurse who gave the first COVID-19 vaccine to Maggie Keenan and many others, in supporting the initiative.

The #NHSBigTea, hosted by NHS Charities Together, is an opportunity to come together and thank NHS staff and our communities for the incredible role they have played over the last year.

At 3pm on the NHS’s birthday (Monday 5 July) people are being encouraged to take a moment to reflect and raise a mug in collective thanks. People can register online and access resources to help them plan their tea party, virtually or in person.
