Gina’s book features in Dementia literary collection Gina’s book

A book written by the Founder of Exeter Dementia Action Alliance has been chosen to be part of a literary collection to help those living with and close to Dementia.

Gina Awad’s ‘United’ - published in 2022 and illustrated by the late cartoonist Tony Husband – features in the collection ‘Reading Well for Dementia’, which was launched on Wednesday 15 May in the House of Commons, London.

The collection is now available in all libraries across England and Wales.

Gina said: “Being on the Reading Well with dementia booklist is an incredible feeling as I know how difficult it is when a person receives a diagnosis both emotionally and practically - there is so much to process!

“Knowing this carefully curated list has been reviewed and endorsed by people with dementia and their families through a rigorous consultation process is vital. Sharing six true family carer stories through my book ‘United: Caring For Our Loved Ones Living with Dementia’, corroborates the lived experience that lies at the heart of this initiative and must never be underestimated.

“What’s important now is the nation knows they exist and can be borrowed from their local library.”

Gina is the Founder and Lead of the Exeter City Council-backed Exeter Dementia Action Alliance, which was chosen as the Lord Mayor of Exeter’s chosen charity in 2022.
