Get creative and have Fun A Day in Exeter during February

Published: 10 January 2023

Time to get creative with Positive Lights

People are being encouraged to have fun every day throughout February to help get them through the winter months.

They are being encouraged to capture what they’re doing and then take part in an exhibition in March.

Fun A Day Exeter encourages people to do a fun activity every day throughout the month of February. The initiative culminates in an exhibition at the City Council-backed Positive Light Projects in Sidwell Street on the weekend of 18 and 19 March.

People can do anything, so long as they do it on a daily basis and record or capture what they’ve done.

It could be going for a walk every day for a month, drawing, painting, photographing or baking, the options are endless.

People could construct with LEGO every day or play a game.

Fun A Day started in 2004 in Philadelphia, USA by a group of friends wanting to stay creative through the winter months. It has since been adopted across the USA and has ventured as far as Dundee, Scotland.

This year it hits Exeter with Exeter residents and recent imports Stephen Fisher and Ali Lucas launching the initiative.

The Fun A Day concept is really simple; participants just do the same project every day throughout February and record it. Twenty-eight of the projects are then displayed in a group show in mid-March.

Most importantly, those taking part don’t need to be an artist to participate, although artists are very welcome. One past participant baked a different kind of scone each day. Another participant played a game of chess each day and displayed photos of the 28 chess games!

Participants are only limited by their imagination and the need to keep things family friendly. Community involvement is always good, so working in groups or with friends is also encouraged.
