Free and fun activities on offer during Summer at the Quayside Appleton Event Photography

Summer at the Quayside is back for the school summer holidays, with free activities taking place on the waterfront every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Commissioned by the Exeter Canal and Quay Trust, the diverse programme of fun and colourful activities are all inspired by the unique waterfront setting.

The fun began last week when 3D Joe and Max created a unique salmon fishing boat with the legendary giant sturgeon swimming just below the surface.

Created using chalk and paints on the Piazza Terracina, the design has now been varnished so it is expected to last a few weeks. Visitors can hold up a camera when they are standing at the photo point marked and the work takes on an incredible 3D view.

Every Friday, Uncle Tacko and the Prom Prom team also bring a bit of old-fashioned end of the pier fun to the Transit Shed. Literally expect the unexpected, as there could storytelling, puppets, magic, games and even a flea circus. The free fun runs from 11am till 3pm, unless otherwise stated.

This week Devon Science will be running a Bath Bomb Lab on Tuesday 30 July, which has been described as “fizztacular fun for all the family.”

Artist Lou Chapman will be running an Air Dry Clay Workshop on Wednesday 31 July, allowing visitors to make make their own clay face or flower to take home.

Also on Wednesday, PaddleBoat Theatre are staging a seaside takeover where visitors can write a sea shanty, meet the old Lighthouse Keeper and contribute to a coastal collage.

Over the rest of the summer, the packed programme includes everything from art workshops, to music and theatre to nature workshops.

There is no need to book, just turn up and join in a summer of free fun – and visitors are encouraged to visit all of the other brilliant businesses on and around the waterfront.
