Fancy becoming a Sing & Smile daytime session leader? Sing & Smile sessions

A charity that runs Sing & Smile sessions across Exeter for older, often very isolated people, is on the look-out for daytime session leaders.

Goldies are planning to run new, fun daytime Sing & Smile sessions in central Exeter, Whipton, Topsham and Sidmouth.

Sing & Smile sessions are fun social groups where older, often very isolated people, come together to sing-along to the popular memory evoking music of the 50s and onwards, while stretching, hopefully smiling and laughing.

The City Council first brought the charity to Exeter in 2016, when its housing teams held an introductory session at the historic Guildhall with a number of residents from the Council’s Older Person’s Housing Schemes across the city.

The scheme caught on and has become popular in the city ever since. During the Covid pandemic, Goldies continued to run the sessions, but online.

The sessions are aimed at being uplifting, offering important opportunities for people to create supportive friendships and links to their local community.

Leaders will have a love of music, an enthusiastic personality with empathy and patience for those attending sessions and a commitment to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable people from local communities.

Full training and all equipment will be provided, own transportation essential.

Sing & Smile leaders work on a voluntary basis or are paid freelance at £25 per session plus mileage allowance.
