Family swimming is returning to Pyramids

Published: 23 October 2020

Pyramids Leisure Centre will be able to accept bookings from members for ‘Bubble Swims’ from Saturday, 24 October, for sessions beginning on Monday, 26 October.

Bubble Swims will allow leisure members to book the Pyramids learner pool for a family swim session in time for the autumn half term.

This is a new way to swim and we recommend that people look at the leisure centre pages on our website or call the centre in advance to make sure they understand what will be different.

Bubbles can include up to six people of any age, with two bubbles allowed to use the learner pool at any time.

There can be no more than two under 8’s being supervised by any one adult. This adult is directly responsible for the children and must be within reach of weak or non-swimmers at all times. As an example, your Bubble Swim could include two adults and four children under the age of 8.

Bubble swimmers will need to arrive Pool Ready, which means coming with your swimming kit on under your clothes, leaving your kit bag at poolside and drying down there to put your clothes back on over your swimming kit before leaving the pool.

Babies, small children or toddlers must not be left unsupervised in carriers or pushchairs on the side of the pool and pushchairs should be left in the reception area. The main pool will continue to be for pre-booked lane swimming only for adult leisure members.

A spokesman said: “The new Bubble Swims at Pyramids show a great step forward in our staggered process of opening up our leisure centres again in a COVID safe way.

"There are still restrictions on who can swim and how, so it’s really important that leisure members understand the rules before booking or arriving, to make sure families aren’t disappointed.

“We’re so pleased that families will be able to use the Pyramids learning pool again this half term. The whole leisure team are working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep everyone safe and make more facilities available to more people as we go forward.

"This is such a strange time, but we'd like to say thank you to everyone for being patient and working with us to get this all up and running again.”
