Exeter Service of Remembrance

Exeter will come together on Sunday 13 November to remember all those who have served and lost their lives as part of the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces as a result of conflict or terrorism.

A Service of Remembrance will take place on Remembrance Sunday at the War Memorial in Northernhay Gardens. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Lord Mayor's Chaplain will conduct the service which will start at 10.50 am, with the Exeter Salvation Army Band accompanied by the University of Exeter’s Chapel Choir who will perform before the service and during the hymns.

A Civic Party led by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Yolonda Henson, and comprising City Councillors, Honorary Aldermen, MPs and representatives from the emergency services, military and other key partners from the city will be present

A large number of ex-service units, cadets and other local associations will be represented around the War Memorial carrying standards and laying wreaths.

Any associations which are currently not attending but would like to be represented at the service are asked to contact the Lord Mayor's office to register their interest so that an appropriate position can be allocated for them.

Drill Instructors from CTCRM, Lympstone will provide military guidance with a Bugler from the 6 RIFLES Salamanca Band who will play Reveille and the Last Post.

A digital version of the order of service will be released next week, which will available to download onto mobile phones.

Members of the public are welcome to lay poppies or wreaths. If they make themselves known to the Drill Instructors on the day, then they will be shown where to stand.

There will also be an Armistice Day Service of Remembrance at Higher Cemetery in Exeter on Friday 11 November from 10.30am.

The Service has been arranged by the Exeter Branch of the Devonshire and Dorset Regimental Association and will be held at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) Second World War plot near the Hamlin Road entrance. On-street parking is available on Hamlin Lane.

The Lord Lieutenant of Devon will attend the Service along with the Lord Mayor of Exeter, along with representatives of the CWGC. Local ex-service organisations and children from Ladysmith Junior School and St Michael’s Academy have also been invited, as well as youth organisations from around the city. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
