Exeter’s RAMM presents a night of entertainment and exploration

Exeter City Council’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) has announced an exciting programme of events for the next RAMM Lates in May.
RAMM’s popular after-hours night of entertainment returns on Friday 13 May, 6.30 to 10pm. This time RAMM Lates has been specially curated by the Youth Panel, a group of young people between 18-25 years old with a passion for museums. Ticket-holders can enjoy a feel-good programme of live music, performances, art and talks exploring the human face, expression and portraits.
Highlights of the evening will include a bold and brilliant performance from Exeter-based drag queen Arina Fox. Arina, who was a finalist in ‘Miss Drag UK’, will be dispelling misconceptions about drag and entertaining everyone with musical numbers on the night.
Semi-Toned, Exeter University’s leading a cappella group, will be performing. An all-male group who were winners of ‘The Choir’ on BBC2 and have had sell-out 5* shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Semi-Toned will be performing music from various genres on the night. In addition, there will be music from the Exeter University Jazz Orchestra, who will play a variety of tunes from their diverse repertoire.
The evening will also include a talk from RAMM’s Fine Art curator Eleanor Hutchison, who will be discussing portraits in the museum collection. Dr Iwona Kozieradzka-Ogunmakin will be speaking about early representations of human faces in archaeological records. Whilst another talk by Melissa Percival will focus on identity and concealed faces.
There will be opportunities to get creative with the many craft activities on offer, from portrait drawing with Lee Bates to mask making and face painting. Alternatively ticket-holders can relax and unwind in mindfulness sessions, or catch up with friends over a drink from Bar Nova and grab a bite to eat from the museum café.
Generously funded by the Art Fund, the Youth Panel aims to give young people a voice and offer them the chance to take an active role in shaping what happens at RAMM. Now in its second year, the panel assist with planning and delivering events, activities and exhibitions – they are currently showing a collection of objects related to the ‘environment’ in the Viewpoint windows.
