Exeter City Council is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

Published: 31 January 2020

Next week is National Apprenticeship Week – and the City Council is playing its part by celebrating the success of our apprentices.

The council currently has 21 apprentices in a wide variety of roles, with three more expected shortly.

There are apprentices on 11 different courses, including Data Analyst Level 4, Senior Leader MBA Level 7, Horticulture Level 2 and many more.

The Council works with a number of training providers, including Exeter College, Exeter of University, Transplant Master-train, University of Law, Bridgwater and Taunton College.

Out of the 21 current apprentices, 16 were existing employees when they embarked on the apprenticeship.

That’s because they are a fantastic way of upskilling existing staff when there is a limited training budget elsewhere.

The Council is an apprenticeship levy paying employer, which means we are taxed a set amount per month based on our salary bill which is then ring-fenced for the sole purpose of paying for apprenticeship training fees.

Next week we are showcasing some of our amazing apprentices to highlight why the apprenticeships are so important.

Apprenticeship Expo

The Apprenticeship Expo - the biggest Apprenticeship and careers event to take place in the South West annually, during National Apprenticeship Week, takes place at Exeter College Sports Hall, in Queen Street, on 6 February, from 1pm to 6pm.

It is sponsored by Exeter Live Better and Building Greater Exeter.

The free of charge event is designed to inspire, enthuse and motivate people to think about the wide variety of apprenticeship opportunities open to them.
