A virtual civic reception has taken place to celebrate the historic double success of Exeter Chiefs.

The club recently became champions of England and Europe after scooping the sport’s two biggest club trophies.

The Lord Mayor of Exeter Cllr Peter Holland and City Council Leader Cllr Phil Bialyk both praised the success of the Chiefs during the ceremony, which was live-streamed on the Council’s Facebook page.

Chiefs Chief Executive and Chairman Tony Rowe, and Director of Rugby Rob Baxter, both made speeches from Sandy Park thanking the Council for its support.

The players also took part in the event and each received a civic memento in recognition of their outstanding performance this season.

Cllr Bialyk told the Chiefs: “We are all so proud of you and everything you have achieved this season.

“It really is an amazing achievement, and one that means so much to the whole city. You have given us all something to smile about, and I couldn’t be more pleased.”
