Enjoy a cosy film at your local library

Published: 18 October 2024

A new winter season of low-cost ‘Films at the Library’ is being rolled out across Exeter and Devon.

Now in its seventh successful season, the cosy in-house screenings will take place at 10 libraries across the county, including St Thomas Library in Exeter.

The festival of film is being organised by Libraries Unlimited – a charity that runs 54 libraries across Devon – with funding from Arts Council England and Exeter City Council.

The exciting initiative kicks off in November, with St Thomas Library showing two films: Wicked Little Letters on Tuesday, 12th November at 7pm; and Fisherman’s Friends on Thursday, 14th November at 7pm.

Tamsin Pender, programme co-ordinator at Libraries Unlimited, said: “‘Films at the Library’ has become a much-loved permanent fixture in our calendar, with two seasons running each year.

“We’re keeping our prices much lower than standard cinema costs and giving people the opportunity to enjoy new and less well-known films, as well as some old favourites.

“Our customers have said they love the atmosphere and the fact you can bring as many blankets and cushions as you like and really relax! Winter is the perfect time to snuggle up in a warm, welcoming library for an afternoon or evening of low-cost film indulgence.”
