Encouraging more wildlife back to Exeter’s streams

Published: 20 March 2024

Plans to revitalise a stream in Exeter and encourage more wildlife to return will be discussed during an online talk next month.

People are being invited to attend ‘Natural Northbrook: restoring city stream’ at 6pm on Thursday 11 April. The talk is being held by Devon Wildlife Trust.

Exeter’s Northbrook suffers from many problems such as poor water quality and a disconnect from floodplains and natural habitats. Large sections have been artificially straightened, piped underground and through cemented channels.

But despite this, otters and kingfishers can still be spotted. They survive against the odds and they do so due to the resilience of nature.
