City Council supports local businesses through COVID-19

Published: 2 September 2020

More than £27 million has been awarded to help businesses in Exeter through the Coronavirus pandemic, new figures have revealed.

Exeter City Council has dished out the money on behalf of the government.

More than 2,200 businesses have taken advantage of the financial support in the form of:

  • Small Business Grants (SBGF) scheme, and
  • Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Business Grants Fund (RHLGF)
  • Discretionary Business Grants

Cllr Emma Morse, Lead Councillor for Supporting People, said she was pleased with the take up of the schemes and delighted to be able to support local businesses through these challenging times.

“I can’t express my gratitude to all the hard-working staff at the Council who have worked tirelessly around the clock to enable businesses to tap into what for many has been a lifesaver.

“Right from the start we had very little time to get the scheme up and running but thanks to their go-to attitude of the staff who have been able to implement the scheme and distribute the money, it has definitely been a success.”

A total of £10.95 billion has been awarded to 893,150 businesses across the UK as part of Small Business Grants and the Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Business Grants schemes.
