Celebrating Windrush: A Vibrant Tribute at Exeter Library Library Late: Windrush

A vibrant celebration of the Windrush generation’s rich heritage and contributions is taking place in Exeter.

Library Lates: Windrush takes place at Exeter Library on Saturday 22 June, 6.30pm to 9.30pm. The celebration includes music and dance performances, literary discussions, exhibitions and craft workshops on local and national Windrush stories.

Windrush is used to describe the post-war immigration of West Indian people to the UK between 1948 and 1971 from Caribbean countries such as Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados. It is named after HMT Empire Windrush, which docked in Tilbury, Essex, in 1948, carrying passengers from the Caribbean.

Exeter City Council’s Chief Executive Bindu Arjoon will be among those sharing their own personal connections to the story at the event, which aims to celebrate diversity and heritage.
