Call for development sites to be identified in Exeter

Landowners in Exeter are being asked to identify sites that could be used to form part of a new local plan.

Exeter City Council has launched a ‘Call for Sites’ to identify potential development land for the building of new homes, workplaces and other land uses.

A new Local Plan for Exeter will establish a framework for future planning decisions in the city for years to come.

Cllr Emma Morse Lead Councillor for City Development, said: “There is a national drive to increase the provision of new homes and the ‘call for sites’ is the starting point for doing that in Exeter.

“However, this isn’t only about housing, it’s about delivering other types of development to meet the needs of our communities going forward.”

Once the council has heard from landowners it will carry out a Land Availability Assessment which will inform the Local Plan by identifying sites that could potentially be used for future development.  Development could include homes, commercial and other uses.

Councillor Morse added:  “By submitting a site to be considered, this doesn’t mean it will be allocated for development in the new Local Plan or that it will be granted planning permission.  But it does give us vital knowledge of sites that could be developed in the future.”

Sites can be submitted online from now until 4 January 2021 on the Council’s website
