Big freeze is making it more difficult to empty some garden waste bins

Published: 24 January 2023

The cold weather is causing the contents of some garden waste bins to become frozen inside the bin.

This is preventing crews from fully emptying the bins. Our vehicles lift the bins and forcefully shake out the contents. If this process fails to dislodge the waste, crews will not be able to empty the bin on this occasion and due to time constraints will be unable to return at a later time or on another day.

Residents may wish to keep the bin inside a garage or shed until the morning, if they are able to do so. But residents should be aware that crews work to tight schedules and they may arrive as early as 6am.

A spokesman for the Council said: "If garden bins haven’t been emptied or have been partially emptied due to the contents being frozen inside, please keep hold of your garden waste until your next collection or wait until it has unfrozen and take it to a recycling centre.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding."
