Beware of scams to enter your house

Published: 3 December 2020

People are being warned to be on the guard against scams to enter properties in the city.

The warning comes after a Council housing tenant was paid a visit by two men claiming to be from the local authority.

The men claimed that they were fitting new windows and wanted to measure up inside the property. Once inside the property they went into the loft and back garden and took photographs.

When they left they said they would be back to measure up again before fitting the windows in January.

The City Council and its contractors have said that they will always make an appointment before calling on a tenant.

The Council also stressed that householders should insist on seeing formal identification from the caller. Its staff and contractors are happy to wait outside the property whilst the householder contacts the City Council to verify the visit is legitimate. Householders are advised to report any suspicious activity to the police.
