A New Chapter at Exeter’s historic Guildhall

More than a building, Exeter’s Historic Guildhall is a living embodiment of Exeter’s history and evolution. The centuries-old building has borne witness to the rise of commercial prosperity, the strife of rebellions, and the shift of power.

Now, the historic civic building in High Street is embracing a new chapter with the installation of a new stained-glass window that maintains the tradition of honouring the city’s Chief Executive.

The Guildhall’s stained-glass windows, striking in their elegance and vibrancy, bear the names of all past Chief Executives, acting as an enduring tribute to their service.

The tradition signifies the continuity of the city’s leadership and its commitment to progress while acknowledging the historical foundations that bolster Exeter’s community spirit.

The latest addition to this lineage of leaders is Bindu Arjoon, appointed as Chief Executive of Exeter City Council earlier this year.

Her name, now etched in vibrant stained glass, joins her predecessors.

Bindu said; “I am honoured to have my name appearing alongside others that have served the City Council and in particular Philip Bostock OBE DL, who appointed me back in 2006, and Karime Hassan MBE who I was privileged to work with during his time as Chief Executive.”

With the completion of the new panels, the Guildhall continues its duty as a symbol of civic pride and a silent custodian of history.
