A brighter future: Visit Exeter plans events recovery with The List

Published: 12 July 2021

The List and Visit Exeter have partnered to provide a live events listings data service for locals and tourists alike, helping to drive people back into cultural venues and the city centre again.

Around 35% of the UK visitor economy is attributed to live events (Eventbrite*) and the new service will provide a more comprehensive set of live events information; this will help businesses in Exeter to recover from Covid-19 by showcasing more reasons to visit the city than ever before.

The total volume of live events in the UK has risen by 13% in the last 7 days alone and sets new records for growth in percentage terms almost every week, whilst 2022 is set to be a record year for the live events industry.

The List’s unparalleled relationships with event providers, box offices and its 35-year experience of the live events industry – combined with bespoke in-house technology which automatically collects, cleans and packages the data for partners like Exeter – hooks seamlessly into the destination marketing website Visit Exeter.

The integration – which is the first of its kind with the world's largest destination software provider, Simpleview – has multiple benefits. Live events data will be automatically collected from many venues, saving Visit Exeter time and effort researching and uploading information manually, leaving them more able to focus on effectively marketing the city. The value of live events data support has become especially apparent over the last fifteen months, which has seen an unprecedented number of event cancellations and schedule changes as a result of Covid-19.

Event organisers will also have access to a huge marketing opportunity, completely free of charge through The List’s services. In addition to events being added to the Visit Exeter platform, they will also be added to list.co.uk (1.8 million unique users a month), inyourarea.co.uk (8 million unique users a month) and shortly the wider Trinity Mirror platform. Additionally, The List is growing its distribution network across accommodation providers (trivago, Apex Hotels, Vine Hotels etc.) and transport providers (Northern, LNER, Scotrail) all the time.

Cllr Amal Ghusain, Lead Councillor for Communities and Culture for Visit Exeter, said “We are excited to be working with The List to promote live events in Exeter. The events industry has suffered a huge setback this year and we want to support local venues where we can. We can now say that we have the most comprehensive events listings for Exeter that we’ve ever had, and it shows off the diversity of events Exeter’s strong cultural sector has to offer.”

Brendan Miles, Director of data and content for The List said: "People are desperate to return to live events after such a long period of lockdown and isolation. Our unique combination of experience and world-leading technology provides an unrivalled end-to-end events promotion platform, saving time and money for the cultural and tourism sectors, coupled with an increased variety of choice for potential Exeter visitors."
